Cityscape is a visual portrayal of the ambiance and atmosphere of an unfamiliar city. In this piece I've tried to capture the textures, tastes and organic makeup of Vancouver as perceived through the lens of an outsider. In a bid to avoid the obvious imagery of important urban landmarks and acclaimed Vancouver structures, I have directed the focus of the piece towards the organic elements of the city that are discerned and comprehended with senses other than sight. I've used imagery in an attempt to embody the overwhelming and otherworldly emotions one might have when lost deep within the unknown. Using an unpredictable space as the setting of the image, I've tried to create a delusive landscape stripped of any recognizable city architecture to maintain the city's impalpable aura as an inward experience infused with personal angst, nostalgia and yearning. Cityscape is a portrait of the undiscovered. This was a collaborative public art project between Emily Carr's Faculty of Culture + Community and the city of Vancouver.
